Grow your own lettuce and herbs and avoid those plastic bags of salad from the supermarket. Indoors, try “micro greens ”, i.e.  leaves that can be harvested soon after opening. In a greenhouse, try sowing salad leaf seed mixes. Outdoors, beetroot, onion, pea and lettuce plants are frost resistant so suitable for planting in April.
