Green Tip                                                                 Eco-friendly stain removing

Treat stains before washing either by soaking for an hour or, better still, overnight in either 100ml of white vinegar or a tablespoonful of washing soda crystals in 300ml of cold water for the vinegar or tepid water for the washing soda. If a garment needs sterilising or bleaching use percarbonate. This is easily obtained on line and is a mixture of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide which is very eco-friendly as it just breaks down to oxygen water and sodium carbonate. This sterilises, softens the water and removes stains and limescale.

Bishop Helen-Ann writes: ‘the 40 days of Lent is an ideal point to form new lower carbon habits that people can take forward. It’s that change that could be transformational if everyone could carry it through.’ She will be seeking ways of treading more lightly on our planet by highlighting sustainable practices already in place in Bishop’s House and the Bishop’s Office, with a different focus each week and ideas to share or consider.
