Diocesan Pilgrimage - Saturday 6th June

St Aidan's Way

As part of its 'Year of Sharing', the Diocese of Newcastle has launched its very own pilgrimage route, St Aidan’s Way. From the ‘first cathedral’ on Holy Island, to the ‘new cathedral’ in Newcastle, we’re invited to walk in the footsteps of St Aidan, with opportunities to reflect on his role as peacemaker.

The journey will be split into eight stages, the first of which took place on 7th March and the next one will be 6th June.  Here is the full route:

Stage One: 7th March      | Holy Island to Belford (21km)

Stage Two: 11th April       | Belford to Seahouses (16km)

Stage Three: 2nd May      | Seahouses to Craster (16km)

Stage Four: 6th June         | Craster to Warkworth (21km)

Stage Five: 11th July         | Warkworth to Cresswell (17km)

Stage Six: 11th August      | Cresswell to Ashington (24km)

Stage Seven: 12th September | Blyth to Tynemouth (15km)

Stage Eight: 31st October | Tynemouth to Newcastle (19km)

Stage Four: Craster to Warkworth

On 6th June, pilgrims will walk from Craster to Warkworth. As this is a longer stage, we will be starting earlier with a short act of worship at St Peter the Fisherman, Craster NE66 3TH at 9am. We plan to co-ordinate lifts and transport for everyone in Newcastle East Deanery who would like to join in!  There is ample parking at Craster, and public toilets.   There is little to no mobile reception in Craster so please bear this in mind when making arrangement with others for transport and also if you need to purchase parking at Craster.

Snacks, water, lunch, and sensible clothes are advised.

The walk will finish at St Lawrence, Warkworth NE65 0UR. There is plenty of parking around Warkworth.  The car park at Warkworth castle closes at 5pm, but the English Heritage site does indicate there is plenty of parking elsewhere in the village.

If you would like to join us, please let Robert know by 31st May!
